Jovani S. Tomale, a student of Davao City National High School-Region XI bagged the 2nd place for the Cluster 2 Physical Science, Individual Category in the 2009 DepEd-Intel Philippines Science Fair held at Subic Bay, Olonggapo City last February 23-27, 2009.
Tomale out-staged 15 of the 17 other participants, winning the 2nd place, with his study entitled, A Mathematical Model Utilized on the Sex Determination of the Philippine Eagles (Pithecophaga jefferyi), an endangered specie of eagle.
“Winning is the least thing that I could ever imagine. The fact the competition was tough and my opponents’ studies were scholarly done. I guess it’s just a thing called beginner’s luck.” Tomale said.
Besting all regions in the Philippines, Tomale, who was also recipient of the Intel Excellence in the Computer Science Award, will represent the country in the upcoming Intel Science and Engineering Fair that will be held in Rio, Nevada this May 10-16, 2009.
